Dear Colleagues and Dear Readers,

All visitors and colleagues, who could attend the XXIII FIG Congress 2006 in Munich know it and have experienced it:
The meeting of nearly 20.000 surveyors, land managers and GIS experts on the occasion of the FIG World Congress and German INTERGEO 2006 was a unique and unforgettable technical, social and cultural event. We, the German hosts and organisers, are very happy that we could meet all expectations of visitors from all parts of the world and that we could demonstrate again, like during the Football World Cup, the skill of “German-like” organisation and Bavarian hospitality. We very much enjoyed our guests and wish our successors, the colleagues in Hong Kong, that they also will be awarded for their efforts and engagement in organising the FIG Working Week 2007 by thousands of participants.

FIG events, like all Munich visitors now easily can confirm, are always worth to join and to enjoy the “spirit of FIG” and the special flavour of the venue. Do not hesitate to move on from enjoying “Bavarian way of life” to test now the special atmosphere of Hong Kong.

The XXIII International FIG Congress 2006 in Munich is over. During the congress Munich was focus of the world of surveying. Germany has been for the second time host of the International FIG Congress and once again it has been a pleasure for us. Together with the INTERGEO we have had nearly 3000 registered participants, about 1200 FIG participants. We experienced a great trade fair with 20.000 visitors. The FIG Congress offers the possibility to take part in altogether more than 100 technical sessions, workshops and poster sessions. We tried to present our profession in all its breadth, variety and enormous potential for contribution to many walks of life. Our goal was to boost exchange of experience and transfer of knowledge both national and international.

Hopefully, beside the large technical programme you have had time to enjoy Munich and to meet friends. We tried to offer an interesting and various social programme.

On behalf of the Local Organising Committee for the XXIII International FIG Congress I deeply express: We do like to be your hosts! Thank you very much for so many positive and satisfying feedbacks from you.
